FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — Franklin Fire Department firefighters rescued a woman from an apartment fire on Thursday morning.

The department told News 2 units were dispatched to a three-story apartment building just before 8 a.m. Thursday morning after a resident in another building heard an alarm and called 911.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they reportedly saw smoke outside the building and began investigating. Upon entering the apartment, they found one woman lying on the couch. Firefighters were able to carry her to safety before extinguishing the fire, which the department said was contained to the kitchen.

Franklin Fire Marshal Andy King said the woman sustained smoke inhalation injuries and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC).

“He said the fire started on the stovetop, igniting common household items and cardboard,” a press release from the Franklin Fire Department reads in part. “Although the apartment had automatic fire sprinklers, the flames did not reach a temperature high enough to activate them.”
