ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. (WKRN) — During the course of their career, police officers end up wearing many hats.

In fact, one officer in Ashland City can now add flower delivery man to the list.

The story unfolded on Monday, Sept. 16, following a traffic stop along Highway 12.

Officers told News 2 they pulled over LaMarcus Brooks, 34, for a window tint violation.

Upon further investigation, police said they discovered that Brooks was driving on a revoked license for a DUI conviction in 2014. According to the Ashland City Police Department, this is the fourth time Brooks has been stopped for driving without a license.

In addition, officers learned that the Ashland City man had an outstanding warrant out of Macon County for child support.

While Brooks was being placed under arrest, officers spotted a big bouquet of roses in the back seat of his car.

Brooks allegedly told officers that he was on his way to a date when he got pulled over. The entire interaction was captured on bodycam.

“I brought her some flowers,” Brooks told the officer.

“That is just unfortunate,” responded the officer.

While one officer took Brooks to jail, Sgt. Aaron Scott decided to take the flowers to the man’s date.

“If she lived local, I would go deliver them to her,” Scott could be heard telling his fellow officers on bodycam.

While obtaining the address of Brooks’ date, Scott said, “Them things were some expensive bouquet of roses, I hate to see a good rose go to waste.”

Fellow officer, Sgt. Alexis Duncan, spoke to News 2 about the out of the ordinary interaction.

“Yeah, that is part of being a public servant. We are not just out here to respond to calls and make traffic stops. We go the extra mile when we can, and at this point he did,” said Duncan.

Bodycam showed the moment Sgt. Scott knocked on the woman’s door to make the special delivery.

“I’m hearing you were supposed to go on a date tonight. Is that right? With Lamarcus?” Scott asked the woman.

    “Yeah,” she replied.

“Well, flowers didn’t quite make it, but I’m trying to give them to you now,” Scott told the woman as he handed the flowers over to her.

“He got stopped, he had a warrant out of a different county, so he ended up having to go to jail,” added Scott. “But either way, the flowers were too nice not to give to you.”

    “Thank you,” the woman responded.

Duncan said the interaction isn’t usual, but ACPD officers do what they can to help everyone in the community.

“I’ve never personally seen it happen before, but we have great officers that care about our community and like to be in our community helping everybody. So that one little extra thing he could do to make someone’s day better, she didn’t get to go on the date, but she did get her flowers.”

News 2’s Andy Cordan asked Duncan how the department reacted to the interaction.

“Now he’s the little romantic, Sgt. Romance. Other than that, it’s a pat on the back, good job, that’s a great thing to do for the community,” she replied.

You, my dear, are a fine, fine man. Congratulations on setting an extraordinary example for the young men of this county that may never see that. Second... you are showing compassion and an example of, just because you made a mistake, doesn't mean you can't show some grace. You are a hero in my mind!!
