Hurricane Helene heading our way

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Hurricane Helene made landfall as a Category 4 hurricane at 10:10 p.m. (CT) in the Big Bend area of Florida. It is expected to bring catastrophic storm surge and life-threatening winds to that area before moving to Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky.

It will move north bringing our area heavy rain and gusty winds from now through Saturday morning. It will continue to impact us through the weekend as it stalls out over us.

Heavy rainfall is the biggest threat coming with this system. A Flood Watch is in effect for all of Middle Tennessee and Southern KY through Saturday morning. Rainfall totals will be anywhere from 3 to 5 inches.

Rain continues tonight, becoming widespread and heavy overnight Thursday into Friday afternoon and evening.

As the rain increases, the wind gusts will increase too. Gusts 30 to 50 mph are possible, with the highest gusts likely in the eastern areas. This could lead to power outages.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for our entire area until Saturday morning due to the strong wind gusts. Secure your loose patio furniture and Halloween decorations now.

There will also be a low end tornado threat since it is a tropical system. Be sure to have a way to get warnings and stay alert.
