MNPD announced on X , formerly Twitter, that 32-year-old Haze Hamlett was taken into custody by Violent Crimes detectives at his home on Hicks Road on Thursday, Sept. 26.

Hamlett was indicted by a grand jury for first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse after his son, Joshua, died from fentanyl and xylazine toxicity on March 9, 2023, according to officials.

The investigation showed Hamlett, who has a history of drug abuse, reportedly left pills out that tested positive for suboxone and Adderall. Authorities said Hamlett admitted to buying the pills “off the street,” adding that the pills are believed to have been laced with fentanyl and xylazine before the toddler consumed them.

As of Thursday afternoon, the 32-year-old is being held in the Downtown Detention Center on a $400,000 bond, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office. However, MNPD said the bond was only $200,000.

No additional details have been released about this case.
