Heavy rain, strong wind gusts from Helene continue tonight in Middle TN

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Helene is on track to bring heavy rain and strong wind gusts to Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky after making landfall as a Category 4 hurricane on Thursday at 10:10 p.m. CT in the Big Bend area of Florida.

Heavy rainfall is the biggest threat coming with this system. A Flood Watch is in effect for most of Middle Tennessee and Southern KY through Saturday morning. Rainfall totals will be anywhere from 3 to 6 inches.

Rain will continue to fall tonight and into the weekend. However, it will become less intense Saturday and Sunday.

As the rain increases, the wind gusts will increase too. Gusts 30 to 40 mph are possible, with the highest gusts likely in the eastern areas. This could lead to power outages.

A Wind Advisory is in effect for most of our area until Saturday morning due to the strong wind gusts. Secure your loose patio furniture and Halloween decorations now.

There will also be a low end tornado threat since it is a tropical system. Be sure to have a way to get warnings and stay alert.
