2 teens charged after pedestrian hit by stolen vehicle in downtown Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A pedestrian was seriously injured after being hit by a stolen vehicle in downtown Nashville Monday morning.

The crash happened just before 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of Commerce Street and Rep. John Lewis Way.

According to Metro police, the stolen 2022 Kia Sportage hit the pedestrian and multiple suspects ran away from the crash scene. The vehicle also hit a street sign and a fire hydrant before crashing into a building.

Authorities said the vehicle was reported stolen Sunday night from a parking lot near Nissan Stadium.

The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital to be treated for critical injuries. Police later said that the victim’s injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.

The suspects, identified as 18-year-old Deshawn Horn and a 17-year-old female, were later taken into custody outside the Walmart off Dickerson Pike, according to Metro police.

Investigators said they were able to use the downtown camera system to develop a lead on their whereabouts.

Horn is charged with vehicle theft, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, failure to render aid, driving without a license or insurance and drug possession. As of Monday afternoon, he was being held in lieu of a $61,000 bond.

The 17-year-old is charged in Juvenile Court with vehicle theft, failure to render aid and leaving the scene of an accident.

Detectives said there is an ongoing investigation into the teens’ potential involvement in additional thefts.
