    TEMA confirms 11 weather-related deaths as of Wednesday

    JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) — On Wednesday night, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) announced 11 weather-related fatalities in East Tennessee following Hurricane Helene.

    ‘Survivor-centric response’: Tennessee prepares for long haul recovery from Helene floodwaters

    The Tennessee Department of Health has confirmed 11 deaths in the following counties, according to TEMA’s report from Wednesday, Oct. 2:

    • Four in Unicoi County
    • Two in Cocke County
    • Two in Washington County
    • One in Greene County
    • One in Knox County
    • One in Johnson County

    Several county health departments have been closed due to power outages, water outages and weather-related damage.

    TEMA also said 23 people are still actively missing.

    • Unicoi County: Six
    • Greene County: Four
    • Washington County: Three
    • Knox County: Three
    • Sullivan County: Two
    • Johnson County: Two
    • Carter County: One
    • Hawkins County: One
    • Cocke County: One
