    WATCH: Tornado crosses Florida interstate as Hurricane Milton churns closer

    TAMPA, Fla. ( WFLA ) — As Florida’s Gulf Coast braces for the impacts of Hurricane Milton Wednesday, the storm is causing severe weather across the state, even in Miami.

    The National Weather Service Miami shared photos of a tornado crossing Interstate 75 Wednesday as cars were still driving on the highway.

    Time to evacuate running out as Milton begins to lash Florida

    “TORNADO crossing I-75 as we speak! Seek shelter NOW!” the agency wrote on social media .

    Miami and much of South Florida are not in the direct line of Hurricane Milton but could still face severe weather, like Wednesday’s tornado.

    Parts of the Tampa Bay area, which is in Milton’s path , are under tornado watches until Wednesday night.

    Landfall timeline: When will Hurricane Milton hit Florida?

    The timing of Milton’s landfall in Florida moved up as the storm picked up speed Wednesday afternoon. Chief Meteorologist Jeff Berardelli at News 2’s sister station, WFLA , said Hurricane Milton was more likely to make landfall around 7 p.m. or 8 p.m., instead of in the late night hours.
