NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Authorities say two suspects have been arrested for their connection to an armed carjacking that took place Wednesday night at an apartment complex in South Nashville.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said officers were sent to the 280 block of Hickory Trace Drive at approximately 8:17 p.m. to respond to reports about a robbery.

According to an arrest report, the victims told police that they were sitting in a 2016 Nissan Altima in front of their apartment when three men approached the vehicle. Two of the suspects reportedly banged on the car’s windows with handguns and demanded that the victims get out.

After getting out of the car, the victims said they were each searched by the suspects and the keys to the Nissan were taken. An arrest report states the suspects fled the complex in the Nissan towards Nolensville Pike.

Detectives said they received tracking information for the Nissan and found it at approximately 8:45 p.m. in the 500 block of Foothill Drive, where it was then followed to the 3800 block of Dickerson Pike.

Authorities reported detectives performed a “tactical takedown” on the vehicle, which led the driver and passengers to flee on foot toward Dickerson Pike. However, all three were quickly taken into custody, police said.

According to MNPD, one of the suspects —later identified as 18-year-old Keithan Patterson—was seen running with a Taurus G2C handgun, which he dropped. The gun, in addition to $600, a backpack that contained 74 grams of marijuana and a digital scale, were all recovered by police and believed to belong to Patterson.

In fact, detectives said Patterson admitted to possessing the firearm, which was reported stolen out of Nashville, but said he did not own it.

Additionally, a Glock 43x was found on the driver’s side floorboard, police said. The driver— 22-year-old Javontia Kelly— was identified by one of the victim’s as the suspect who told him to get out of the car. Meanwhile, the other victim identified Patterson as the suspect who told her to get out.
