    20 chickens killed in Montgomery County structure fire

    MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A number of birds died after a Montgomery County chicken coop caught on fire early Thursday morning.

    According to Montgomery County Fire Service , crews responded to a report of a structure fire in the 3800 block of Dailey Road in Woodlawn at approximately 6:08 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10. The homeowners had called 911 when they noticed the blaze outside.

    When units arrived at the scene, they said they found a shed fully engulfed in flames under a carport. That structure ended up being a chicken coop.

    While there were no reports of human injuries from the incident, 20 chickens were killed in the fire.

    Officials said they believe the blaze started from a heat lamp plugged into an extension cord that ran from the house to the coop.

    No additional details have been released about this incident.
