NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man was arrested Thursday after another man was stabbed multiple times in downtown Nashville earlier this week.

According to a Davidson County affidavit, the victim was sleeping in an alleyway in the 500 block of 4th Avenue South when he was woken up just before 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 7 by a man he knew as “Chicago.” The man allegedly yelled at the victim and stabbed him with a large black knife several times.

When police and first responders arrived at the scene, the victim was unable to give a statement due to the amount of blood he lost from being stabbed in the chest, neck, and left arm, the court document says. The victim was brought to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for surgery.

A woman next door reportedly heard someone yell, “never steal anything from me again,” so she went outside to see what was happening. Per the affidavit, she initially thought it was just a fight with the victim lying on the ground and the suspect standing over him, hitting him several times, but then the suspect passed by the woman as he walked away and she noticed the large black knife in his hand, as well as the blood covering the victim.

Police said they spoke with the victim on Tuesday, Oct. 8, but he told them he only knew the suspect, who sold him drugs, as “Chicago.”

After watching street camera footage from before and after the incident, authorities said they found video of the suspect in the same clothing the witness described walking to and from the crime scene.

On Thursday, Oct. 10, law enforcement stopped a man matching the suspect’s description — including the same missing tooth and the same necklace from the video — in the 700 block of Rep. John Lewis Way and brought him to the Metro Nashville Police Department’s Midtown Hills Precinct, according to the court document.

While being interviewed, the man reportedly identified himself as Jimmy Wilson and confirmed he knew the victim, but he denied assaulting him.

“When confronted with video Mr. Wilson did admit the images were him but he was only in the area to use the restroom and did not have any physical altercations with the victim,” the affidavit states.

Due to the detailed description provided by the victim, the footage from cameras in the area, and the suspect’s statements, authorities said they took Wilson into custody.

According to officials, the 59-year-old is being held in the Downtown Detention Center for attempted criminal homicide and contraband in a penal institution (intoxicant/controlled substance).

No additional details have been released about this case.
