5 injured, 1 facing charges following multi-vehicle crash on Old Hickory Blvd.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man was taken into custody in connection with a multi-vehicle crash along Old Hickory Boulevard Friday afternoon that sent several people to the hospital, according to Nashville authorities.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said the collision — which involved three drivers and five vehicles — took place in the 3800 block of Old Hickory Boulevard around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18.

Officials said the preliminary investigation indicates a 76-year-old woman was pulling out from a business in her Honda CRV when she was hit by a northbound Chevrolet Silverado. A Ford F-250 was reportedly traveling in front of the Chevrolet in the same lane, so when the Chevrolet struck the Honda, one of the vehicles collided with the Ford, knocking it out of control.

According to police, the spinning Ford hit and broke a Nashville Electric Service pole before it continued onto a berm, striking the speed limit sign, and went into a parking lot just down the block, where it crashed into two parked vehicles.

Authorities told News 2 the 76-year-old Honda driver was critically injured, sparking an investigation by the fatal crash team. Meanwhile, MNPD said the four “remaining occupants” ended up with non-life-threatening injuries but did not specify which how many people were in each vehicle. Everyone involved in the crash was reportedly brought to TriStar Skyline Medical Center for treatment.

“Upon our at-scene investigation, it became evident the Silverado was traveling at a high rate of speed. An inspection of the Silverado showed the speedometer was stuck at 75mph,” officials said in a statement to News 2. “The area is a marked 45mph speed zone. This is a business area of Old Hickory Blvd and highly traveled roadway.”

Police said none of the drivers exhibited any indications of impairment. In addition, the Honda was leaving a business where there was a hill, so the 76-year-old driver apparently did not see the Chevrolet before pulling out due to the hill and the Chevrolet’s speed.

The driver of the Chevrolet — identified by authorities as 36-year-old Samuel Ramirez-Camacho — is charged with aggravated assault with serious bodily injury by recklessness, two counts of felony reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon/motor vehicle, and altered temporary. He is being held in the Downtown Detention Center on a $46,500 bond, according to officials.

No additional details have been released about Friday afternoon’s multi-vehicle crash.
