Big Lots is shuttering "hundreds" of stores across America amid financial struggles, including a handful of locations in Illinois , in an effort to avoid bankruptcy.

9 Big Lots stores across Illinois are slated to close in the near future, per the popular discount home goods chain's website .

At least 35 to 40 of the chain's 1,389 stores are currently in the process of closing following a $114.5 million sales decrease from 2023 to 2024, and an 84% decrease in stock over the course of a year.

Many of the locations that plan to close their doors are currently running 20% off discount sales as the shuttering process proceeds. Stores in 36 states have officially begun to advertise their closures, with the heaviest hit being California, loosing a whopping 75 stores.
