LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A recent statewide poll of 600 active and likely Michigan voters asked participants whether they approve of a conservative organization’s “Project 2025” agenda .

Project 2025, written by members of conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation–including many senior officials from the former Trump administration–is a nearly 1,000-page document with plans for a future Republican presidential administration.

The document outlines plans to greatly expand the control that a president has over federal agencies, by giving the president authority to fire as many as 50,000 civil service employees and appoint replacements who are loyal to the administration’s agenda.

A group of House Democrats steps up to try to stop Project 2025 plans for a Trump White House

The president’s control over departments would then enable the administration to more easily achieve the goals of Project 2025. Some of the goals include:

    • Reducing taxes on corporations.
    • Eliminating the Affordable Care Act.
    • Directing White House control over enforcement and prosecution decisions made by Department of Justice lawyers and agents of the FBI.
    • Renaming the Department of Health and Human Services to the “Department of Life” and creating a “Life Task Force,” responsible for creating a national abortion database by requiring states to report the number of abortions performed and more specific information about each abortion
    • Eliminating the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which provides weather, climate and coastal science services including the tracking of hurricanes
    • Requiring the federal government to maintain a definition of marriage and family through biblically-based, social-science reinforced terms

The question asked of Michigan voters in the July EPIC-MRA poll was as follows:

“After hearing some of the policies endorsed by the Heritage Foundation, which in their words is designed to install ‘…the right conservative policy recommendations and properly vetted and trained personnel…[to] take back our country,’ do you approve or disapprove of the overall aims outlined in Project 2025?”

Responses to the question were as follows:

25% total approve of the overall aims

65% total disapprove of the overall aims

The poll of 600 active and likely voters was conducted by EPIC-MRA from July 13-17. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4%.
