INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WLNS) — It’s day two of Big Ten football media days at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. It’s safe to say last year was a season Michigan State football fans would like to forget.

From head coach Mel Tucker being suspended two games into the season for sexually harassment allegations and eventually being fired to finishing the season with a 4-8 record and being outscored 170-to-10 in games against Washington, Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State.

It’s all part of why former Oregon State head coach Jonathan Smith was hired in late November to be MSU’s next head coach. Since he was hired, Smith has spent time recruiting at the high school level and the transfer portal to rebuild the Spartans roster.

Smith and three of his players are talking with the media today. The players feature returning starting running back Nathan Carter, returning starting defensive back Dillion Tatum and Oregon State transfer tight end Jack Velling. Velling scored eight touchdowns last year as a sophomore for Oregon State.
