6 Sports Two-A-Days: Lansing Sexton and Lansing Everett looking to build off a postseason appearance

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Rivals Lansing Sexton and Lansing Everett both reach the postseason in 2023 and both are seeking more after a first-round exit in the postseason.

The two rivals are stops No. 5 and No. 6 on the 6 Sports Two-A-Days tour.

Of the eight wins the J-Dubbs had last season five resulted in more than 40 points on the scoreboard. Now as Sexton looks to build off its best season since 2017, it’s the other side of the ball that will be key.

With the graduation of starting quarterback Joseph Pizzo, head coach Johnel Davis believes the defense will play a big part in the team’s success in 2024.

Last year Sexton used a different animal as a metaphor for their opponent that week, and that mentality continues this year.

“We’re still going to hunt this year,” Davis said. “We’ll have a few different animals set up for different teams like last year but our motto this year is E.A.T. (Effort, Attitude and Toughness). So we look at this like we got to hunt, but at the end of the hunt, what are we going to do? We’re going to eat. So it’s about our effort our attitude, and our toughness.”

“It was fun,” Senior wide receiver Jeffrey Hudson added. “I remember one of them, Lansing Catholic was a bear. We were going to hunt a bear. It motivated us because it was like the animal that we were hunting. We knew the intensity that we had to put in. As an example – like I used Lansing Catholic as the bear – we need to hit them hard but also tire them out at the same time.”

As for Lansing Everett, in 2023 the Vikings reached the postseason for the first time since 2014 and returned key playmakers.

The Vikings offense will again feature Nizjai Davidson and Mason Chadwell, who are back for their senior season.

Davidson holds multiple college offers and racked up around 1500 yards and 27 touchdowns, while Chadwell is a Saginaw Valley State commit.

“We were real hungry and just wanted to, you know, have a way better outcome this year,” Davidson said. “So we’ve been putting in the work and a lot of improvements have been showing.”

“Going into your senior year, and you get college offers and all those opportunities is when it really starts to feel real,” Canty said. “So I think those guys really have embraced this summer and have been trying to get better so they both will be playing in college next year. I think they’re excited and they worked hard this summer. I think it’s going to show up big time on Friday nights.”
