Radio station gives away 1,200 backpacks

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– Back to school is here for some students and quickly approaching for others, and the community is doing everything it can to help assist mid-Michigan kids prepare for the school year.

Power 96.5 in Lansing says they worked with several non-profits to give backpacks away this year.

Robin Smith, partnership director for Community and School of Michigan says budgets are tight for many mid-Michigan families.

“It’s really impacting families because our budgets are tight and if this is one less thing we can check off the list for parents. Just on average, a backpack alone is around $30, and then to do all the supplies that goes inside and we made sure the best supplies were there,” said Smith.

The backpack giveaway is one of many local efforts working around Lansing to help families who are in need of school supplies.
