LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– A 42-year-old man from the Dewitt area is dead after a crash on I-96 in Clinton County, sheriff confirms. The incident happened around 11:30 p.m. on I-96, just west of Wright Road in Eagle Township

Investigators say the driver of a car pulled over onto the shoulder of the highway. That same driver then pulled out intending to drive back on the highway when a semi-truck trailer rear-ended the car, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Both the semi-truck and car drove off the road and the car caught on fire. The driver of the car died on the scene. The 73-year-old semi-truck driver is a man from Mason and he was treated with minor injuries.

The crash caused part of the highway to close for a few hours. The incident is under investigation.
