LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Today is a Weather Aware Day, with heat and humidity expected to peak across Mid-Michigan. In addition, we are tracking the potential for strong to severe storms across the area later this evening and overnight.

    Heat and Humidity

The National Weather Service has issued Heat Advisories across Mid-Michigan that will expire at 10 pm.

Temperatures today will rise into the low 90s for highs. But, due to the humidity, it will feel like temperatures are in the triple digits this afternoon and evening. Yet again, we will have very little relief overnight, with temperatures only falling into the low 70s and the potential for showers and thunderstorms moving into the area.

Temperatures will begin to cool as we move throughout the rest of the week, with highs in the mid to low-80s. But, humid conditions will remain in place across the area. Humidity will finally decrease as we move into the weekend, as more pleasant conditions settle in.

Slight Risk for Strong to Severe Thunderstorms

A Level 2 of 5, Slight Risk for severe weather remains in place across Mid-Michigan, mainly for the activity we expect to move into our area later this evening and into the overnight hours.

Computer models this afternoon are showing lots of uncertainty with the timing and placement of our next round of precipitation. The main threat with any storms that move into our area tonight will be strong, damaging wind gusts. In addition, the Storm Prediction Center shows a chance for large hail and a low chance for an isolated spin-up tornado across the area.
