    Lansing School District speaks out after shooting near elementary school

    LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Lansing School District has stated to the community after two 16-year-olds were shot near Riddle Elementary School Tuesday.

    These teenagers were students at Sexton High School.

    On Tuesday, police were dispatched to the corner of Riddle St. and W. Allegan St. near Riddle Elementary School at around 3 p.m. in response to a shooting, putting the school on lockdown. The two victims were transported to a local hospital. One of the teens was in critical condition and one was in non-life-threatening condition.

    The shooting took place around four blocks from Sexton High School, from where the district says the students were walking home.

    The school district will offer resources and assistance to those who request them, including counselors and support specialists.

    Dear Lansing School District Family,

    It is with heavy hearts that we inform you about an upsetting incident involving two of our Sexton High School students. Yesterday, as they were walking home from school, they were seriously injured.

    This news has deeply affected all of us, and our thoughts and prayers are with these students and their families as they continue their recovery. We know that this situation may raise concern and worry throughout our community, and we want to assure you that we are here for you.

    In times like these, it’s important that we stand together to support one another. The Lansing School District is committed to offering resources and assistance to anyone who needs it. We have counselors and support specialists ready to help students, families, and staff who may want to talk, process their emotions, or seek guidance.

    "walking home from school"? so they had guns in their backpacks? where were the guns while they were in school? 16 year olds with guns! where are parents? how do they have guns. walking around with guns! so many things wrong with this senerio!!!
