LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Abnormally dry and warm conditions have dominated the forecast for the past several days, giving us perfect conditions for late-summer outdoor activities. However, a pattern change will move into the forecast starting tomorrow, with several chances for rain and cooler temperatures settling into the area.

Mid-Michigan has only picked up on 0.15 inches of rainfall for September, 1.57 inches below normal for the month. That makes this the 4th driest start to September on record. The latest update from the drought monitor shows the lack of rainfall this month has created abnormally dry to moderate drought conditions for areas south of I-94.

Thankfully, after nearly 12 days, the chance for rain will increase across the area, with several chances for rain starting tomorrow, which should alleviate some of the drought concerns across Mid-Michigan.

Dry and sunny conditions are expected for the rest of our Thursday, with high temperatures in the low 80s. We are watching a weak cold front to our west, which will introduce the chance for a few scattered rain showers across the area Friday evening. However, the front will have little impact on our temperatures, which will remain in the mid to low-80s through the weekend.

A more potent area of low pressure will move in Sunday evening, bringing additional chances for rainfall, which will continue into early next week. That system will kick off a major pattern change with our temperatures, with highs in the mid to low 70s for next week.
