LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — 9-year-old Roman Lopez, a fifth-grade student at Herbison Woods Elementary School, was surprised with two tickets to this year’s Super Bowl as part of the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge program.

Roman was having a seemingly normal day of class at school when he was suddenly called to the front office, where he saw his parents. He was confused as they walked him to the school’s library—where he was presented with his two surprise tickets.

“Before I saw the two Super Bowl tickets I was like ‘wow!'” says Roman. “And then after, I was like ‘wow wow!”

Roman was one of five elementary schoolers nationwide who won big today, after being entered for completing the NFL-sponsored Kids Heart Challenge Hands-Only CPR online learning module.

Roman decided to participate in the Kids Heart Challenge because he wanted to learn CPR to help with the fundraiser— and so he could help others. He says that he feels confident in his ability to help other people who might need CPR.

The Detroit Lions also gave Roman—a Lions fan himself—a bag of Lions swag to celebrate his win. Roman believes the Lions can make it to the Super Bowl this year with “practice,” and “confidence.”

When asked how he felt about being able to go to the Super Bowl, Roman says he is “happy,” “surprised,” and “grateful.”

Most importantly? “Go Lions,” Roman says.
