LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A historic community landmark has entered its hundredth year of service to the community. The Marshall Street Armory celebrated its 100 th anniversary Thursday afternoon.

Founded in 1924, the armory has provided numerous years of service, and was home to the 119th Field Artillery of the Michigan Guard until the unit was decommissioned in 2007.

Patrick Gillespie, founder of Gillespie Group says the building is bringing in a new chapter for the people of Lansing.

“You throw stuff away and you build new,” said Gillespie. “It’s nice to be able to keep this building with the heartbeat it’s had and the history it’s had, because a lot of people have spent some quality time here.”

In 1941, the Armory underwent modifications designed by architects Lee Black and Kenneth C. Black.

After the decommissioning of the 119th, the building was closed. It then reopened in 2012 and became a home to many non-profit groups and associations.
