DELTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLNS) — Michiganders can now expect their deliveries a bit faster with a new Amazon center.

Delta Township held its ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Amazon fulfillment center this Wednesday afternoon.

According to Amazon, they’ve created more than 24,000 jobs in Michigan, with 36 facilities and 14 fulfillment centers.

Paola Lopez, General Manager, says the facility will offer a new start for Michiganders.

“We’re gonna provide over 1,200 job opportunities,” said Lopez.  “That’s not only is it a job opportunity, but the great pay. Average starting out at $22.50 an hour.”

The building has been in the making for more than two years. Many of the employees began working in June of this year.

Kahlil Mor, an Amazon worker, is no stranger to the company. He says he began as a delivery driver and then moved on to work inside the fulfillment center.

“Executing in serious situations or just meeting deadlines, just learning more so leadership roles and I’m taking it day by day,” said Mor.

However, there have been relatively high turnover rates for employees at some locations.

Lopez says they’ve found ways to combat that issue.

“Just from day one the health care benefits, as well as the career choice benefits. You can further your education, or you can grow within the own building itself,” said Lopez. “You can start as a tier one associate. So, brand new associate and grow to become a learning ambassador, teaching others how to do the job.”

Lopez says they’re not expanding the center.

She says their starting pay is $22.50 an hour and are currently hiring at their location.
