LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Recreational fires and brush burning are now illegal in Delhi and Alaiedon Townships until further notice.

Delhi Township Fire Chief Brian Ball announced the burn restrictions late Wednesday.

“We’ve had a string of dry weather and a lack of measurable rainfall, creating a very high fire danger in our community,” Ball said in a news release. “The lack of rain and low humidity is making everything very flammable. It’s not safe for any kind of recreational burning or brush burning until further notice.”

The restrictions include “grilling or cooking using charcoal, wood, propane, or natural gas in cooking or grilling appliances,” as officials reported in the news release.

Eaton County went under a red flag warning from the National Weather Service on Oct. 6. A red flag warning indicates the conditions in that area increase the likeliness of a fire.

The Department of Natural Resources reports Lansing has an “Extreme” risk for wildfires, while Charlotte, Jackson and Howell have a “Very High” risk of wildfires.
