Brush fire doused by Lansing fire crews

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A large brush fire on Lansing’s southside tied up two fire truck crews and a brush fire truck for over an hour Saturday afternoon.

The fire was located in a wooded area south of the South Lansing Pathway just at the end of Wexford St.

6 News was on scene as the crews worked to put out hot spots. Trees in the impacted area were burned, and a clear burn pattern was visible.

The fire comes on the heels of warnings from state and local officials of increased fire risks in the region. On Thursday, Delhi Township Fire Chief Brian Ball restricted recreational burns , including bonfires and yard refuse burns, due to the risk of spreading fire. The restrictions continue in both Delhi and Alaiedon Townships.

Friday 6 News spoke with the Department of Natural Resources officials who expressed concerns about the state’s elevated fire risk .

The Lansing region remains under a “very high” fire risk, while the remainder of the viewing area for 6 News is under a “high” fire risk, the DNR fire risk website reports .
