MERIDIAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLNS) — Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su joined home health workers and April Verrett, Service Employees International Union International President, to celebrate passage of legislation allowing home healthcare workers to unionize.

Senate Bills 790 and 791 were signed into law by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer October 8.

The laws restore the right of home healthcare workers to unionize and bargain. The new laws could impact as many as 35,000 people providing healthcare services in private homes.

Home healthcare workers were prohibited from organizing into a union in 2012.
