LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — One person is dead and another is hospitalized in “serious but stable condition” following a crash on U.S. 127 Thursday morning.

Clinton County Sheriff officials report in a news release an initial investigation found a 2000 Buick Century traveling north on U.S. 127 crossed the median and struck a 2024 Dodge Ram truck that was traveling south on U.S. 127. Officials say they were dispatched about 8:34 Thursday morning.

The truck “flipped over the guardrail and came to rest upside down against a tree that was on the edge of a ravine,” Sheriff officials reported.

Both drivers were the sole occupants of the vehicles and required extrication by fire personnel. The driver of the Buick Century was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of this driver has not been released as sheriff officials work towards “formal identification and notification of family.”

The 48-year-old Evart man driving the truck was transported to U of M Sparrow Hospital where he was in serious but stable condition.

The southbound highway was closed after first responders arrived and will remain closed until about 3 p.m., sheriff officials reported in the news release.
