LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Lydia Sattler, director of Jackson County Animal Control and Shelter, confirms with 6 News the agency served three warrants on three separate properties in Jackson County late this afternoon in connection to an investigation into 30 dead cats found in a Jackson apartment complex’s dumpster Tuesday.

She says the agency seized 8 dead cats as well as 6 live cats and 2 live dogs during the execution of the search warrants.

She says the individuals identified were moving from one location to two separate locations within the county. The first location was searched first.

Sattler confirms with 6 News shortly before 5:30 p.m. the agency had executed a warrant and seized more animals from a location in Jackson County. The warrant and seizure were the result of the ongoing investigation of the 30 dead cats found in a dumpster Tuesday.

“We were able to get a good lead on where these cats came from,” Sattler tells 6 News.

Officials from the department responded to a call Tuesday of dead cats in a dumpster. Officer Jeffrey Lang responded to the Abbey Villa apartments. There, he discovered multiple trash bags with deceased cats in them.

Officer Shawn Lutz responded as well and helped Lang collect the bags and transport them to the shelter.

There Lutz and Sattler inventoried the bags.

Sattler says the investigation has been fast moving.

UPDATE: This story has been updated with details of how many properties were searched as well as how many animals were seized by Jackson County officials. This is a developing story.
