BAY COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – On Tuesday, Bay County Chamber of Commerce members join Mexico Beach city officials to cut the ribbon on the playground.

The playground is located at Parker Park. It has slides, monkey bars, and a variety of other climbing structures for kids and families to enjoy.

But this is more than just a playground for those who were involved in building it.

It’s a Hurricane Michael resiliency project, symbolizing the community’s strength after the storm.

Leadership Bay’s 2022 class took on this project. Graduate Lindsey Jones says it’s a symbol of the city’s rebirth.

“It has come back so much stronger. The amount of rebuilding and construction that has happened here has just been so amazing to witness, Bay County graduate Lindsey Jones said. We just wanted to bring something that was going to bring fun and family together and bring some light back into this town that had lost everything.”

Bay County commissioners provided the funding for the new playground.
