BAY COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – During the three-day weekend, most people will be out on the roads traveling to their Memorial Day destinations.

The most important thing is to get to those destinations safely.

Similar to other major driving holidays Bay County deputies, Panama City Beach officers, and Florida Highway Patrol troopers are on the lookout. Keeping an eye out for drunk drivers is their top priority.

Florida Highway Patrol Lieutenant Jason King says with the amount of rideshare apps there is no excuse to drive drunk.

“There’s no reason to get behind the wheel. You know here on the road was driving drunk, driving, sleepy, drowsy, or drugged when you have so many other options to avoid that situation. And let’s be honest, I care about everyone in this county, So just always remember, as a motorist, you’re driving for everybody else and you’re not always driving for yourself,” the Florida Highway Patrol Lieutenant Jason King said.

Lietutant King says enjoy the weekend, buckle up, and stay safe this Memorial Day. He also recommends while out and about to thank a veteran for their service.
