LUBBOCK, TX. ( WMBB ) — Marianna alum, Chloe Temples signed with the Hub City Adelitas to continue her softball career at the professional level.

On June 25, Temples signed with the Adelitas.

One of two professional softball leagues in the U.S., the Women’s Professional Fastpitch League was founded by USA Softball. The Adelitas are one of four teams in the league this season, joining the Texas Smoke, Coastal Bend Tidal Wave, and Texas Monarchs.

Playing professionally wasn’t something she started thinking about until her senior year of college. She texted one of her teammates at BYU about the idea of playing after college and a few months later it became her reality.

“I just wish I had one more opportunity to play again,” Temples said. “I hadn’t planned on doing this. It kind of came out of the blue and I was very back and forth, and I just kept going back to that text and I was like, I basically just told God out loud.”

Temples is coming off a stellar collegiate career at Stetson and BYU.

She was named to the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament Team this past year. The left-handed pitcher led the team this year with 11 wins, 115.1 innings pitched, 119 strikeouts, and a 4.61 ERA.

Temples has played in seven games and started in four in her first three weeks this season.

“It’s still almost hard to believe because I remember when I was really young, that professional sports, especially in the United States was not even an option,” Temples said. “I grew up kind of believing that. In the past few years, it’s developed a little bit. I don’t think I really allowed myself to even believe I could play here.”

The Adelitas have their final regular season game on August 11. In that time, Temples said she is focused on the little things to be the best player for her team.
