BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Expect to see more deputies out on the roads with the first day of school on Monday.

Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford said traffic conditions will drastically change beginning Monday morning. He encouraged drivers to be patient and leave a little early.

He reminded drivers that school zones will be flashing again starting Monday and it’s important to drop your speed accordingly.

“The fines can be pretty steep for this stuff but that doesn’t pale in comparison to someone getting hurt or hurting a child,” said Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford.

Ford said it’s important to remember drivers are not allowed to be using their cellphones while driving through an active school zone.

Sheriff Ford also explained how to properly share the roadway with a school bus.
