LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (WMBB) – After missing the previous two high school seasons, Mosley senior defensive back Lo’Kavion Jackson had a return for the ages in the Dolphins Preseason Kickoff Classic.

The Dolphins defeated South Walton 58-0 on Friday. In the first quarter alone, Jackson compiled a rushing touchdown, a blocked punt which resulted in a teammate scoring, and an interception.

Jackson moved from Ocala to Bay County at the tail end of last fall, transferring to Mosley but missing the entire football season in his junior year.

Since officially joining the Dolphins in the spring, Jackson drew attention from college scouts all over the country, He committed to Mississippi State earlier this year.

Mosley Head Coach Tommy Joe Whiddon said from the moment he saw Jackson on the field he knew that he had the potential to be a star.

“I remember the first time when he went out and moved around in shorts and t-shirts, I was like, ‘Man, I think we’ve got us a good football player,'” Whiddon said. “And then it went from, I think to I know to now it’s just, not only myself, but his teammates, like nothing that he does anymore surprises us.”

The preseason debut is even more impressive when you realize Jackson hasn’t played in a full varsity game since the beginning of his sophomore season at North Marion High School.

Jackson said he never stopped working on his skills during his time away from the field, and that hearing the Mosley crowd cheering his name was a great feeling.

“I’ve been pretty confident I can still play football,” Jackson said. “I was still playing football in the backyard, just throwing it around the stuff, making sure I still had it. I always felt like I could still play.

“Seeing the fans celebrate, that just makes me happy to see the fans celebrate,” Jackson said. “All the plays I made and hearing the fans celebrate for me was the best.”

Jackson and the Dolphins will look for another shutout this Friday, August 23, as they visit Rutheford at Tommy Oliver Stadium.
