GCSO investigates shooting in the Wewahitcka area

Update: Sheriff Mike Harrison said Joni Carr is in custody and faces a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The victim is hospitalized in critical condition.

The incident occurred after an unknown confrontation between the two people. Authorities say the woman followed the man about two miles. He got out of his vehicle and as he approached her car, she allegedly shot him in the chest.

The victim was unarmed. They say this was an isolated incident. Although it happened near the high school while a JV football game was taking place, no one was in danger.
The incident remains under investigation.

GULF COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – The Gulf County Sheriff’s Office is in the early stages of a shooting investigation in the Wewahitchka area, east of Sesame St. and East River Rd.

The victim has been taken to the hospital and one person is in custody. GCSO said the crime scene is secured and includes a portion of East River Rd., which has been closed off. Residents that live at the end of East River Rd. must detour through the Rish subdivision.
