PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. ( WMBB ) – After a three-year hiatus the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb will be back in Panama City Beach in September, this time, with a new organization putting it on.

Bay County non-profit ‘850 Heroes 4 Heroes’ is overseeing the climb which will take place Saturday, September 7th at 9 a.m. at Edgewater Beach Resort Tower 1.

You can register ahead of time now , it costs $50 per person and all the proceeds will be donated to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

‘850 Heroes 4 Heroes’ staff say the reason they brought back the fundraiser is in large part due to the importance of keeping the memory of those who lost their lives during the attacks alive.

“The first one is we just want to make sure we bring honor to the men and women that paid the ultimate sacrifice that day,” said 850 Heroes 4 Heroes President Abel Albritton. “Secondly, we just want to make sure that we don’t forget that their sacrifice wasn’t done in vain, that we never forget. No matter what age bracket you fall into, we want to make sure that we keep remembering what happened that day.”

Participants will climb 11 flights of stairs 10 times.

That’s done to simulate the number of floors first responders climbed in the World Trade Center on the morning of September 11th.
