PANAMA CITY, Fla. ( WMBB ) — Several families got out of the house and soaked up some sunshine at Daffin Park Saturday. That’s where the Panama City Parks, Culture, and Recreation department hosted Family Fun Day.

Bounce houses, relay races, sweet treats, and family time are all hallmarks of the free event.

“It’s to bring the community together, different parts can all come together and have fun. We have a field day. The parents can get active and the kids as well,” Panama City Parks, Culture, and Recreation Program Coordinator Tatyanna Bell said.

Parks and recreation officials say they host the event to get kids active and bring families together.

“We have a tug of war, we have an egg race, we have a balloon race, a sack race as well as a three-legged race. Then at the end, we’re going to kick off the last hour with a big old kickball game for everybody,” Bell said.

Parker resident Ariel Bessette says it’s her first time attending Family Fun Day with her nieces.

“I wanted to get the kids out of the house, away from electronics. I decided to drag them out and have some fun for a little bit, do some tug of war and stuff and just enjoy ourselves and be out on this beautiful day, obviously,” Bessette said.

Bessette’s niece, Heidi Shifflett, says she’s enjoying the event with her aunt.

“It’s actually really cool because half the time she has work and when she takes us places, it’s really, really fun,” Shifflett said.

Panama City Parks, Culture, and Recreation officials say they’re hosting a ‘Touch a Truck’ event in November. Kids will have the opportunity to check out fire trucks, law enforcement vehicles, and more.
