Chipley man arrested for aggravated battery and assault after domestic dispute

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – A Washington County man is facing several felony charges after a recent report of domestic violence.

On August 27, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a physical disturbance at a residence on Pinewood Dr. in Chipley. The caller said an older white male had possibly broken someone’s arm and was threatening people with a knife.

Jerald Eugene Overturf, 65, was identified and detained while deputies were on the way to the scene.

WCSO arrived at the scene to find the victim with visible signs of an altercation. Another victim and witness said Overturf and the initial victim were recently evicted and living in a tent.

The witness said she heard yelling coming from inside the tent, and when she approached it she could see Overturf standing over the victim with a knife, according to officials. She then went into her home and retrieved a handgun.

Authorities said several neighbors heard the dispute and came to assist. Overturf exited the tent with the knife and threatened everyone that he came into contact with while leaving the residence.

When officers questioned Overturf he said “Whatever she said happened is what happened,” Washington County Sherriff’s Office said.

Overturf was booked into the Washington County Jail on the charges of aggravated battery and 5 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
