FLORIDA ( WMBB ) – Despite announcing his resignation last month, former University of Florida President Ben Sasse will retain his $1 million salary for at least the next four years.

His contract states that his salary will remain due to his continuing responsibilities with the university, including serving as president emeritus, professor, and external advisor to a board of trustees chairperson.

Sasse has faced criticism for heavy spending during his two-year tenure.

A student-run newspaper found that in his first year as president, the university spent over $17 million, which is over $11 million more than last year.

They also found Sasse hired former staff members from his time as a U.S. Senator. With some earning twice as much as they made in their government positions.

Sasse will continue to receive his $1 million salary until February 2028 or until he resigns from his other positions.
