BAY COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – Schools all over the country are reporting a major increase in school threats since last week’s shootings at Apalachee High School in Georgia.

Many Florida schools have been targeted. Just Friday morning, there was a threat of violence against Bay High School in Panama City.

Local law enforcement increased their presence on campus. While the threat was deemed not credible, they say they are still taking any and all threats seriously.

And they are still investigating. School officials said these threats have serious consequences.

“Threatening schools is not a joke, is taken seriously at every level. With law enforcement and the state attorney’s office. We do this because we want to ensure a safe and secure environment for all of our students at all of our schools. I urge students not to simply just share concerning information among themselves and repost unsubstantiated claims but instead report it immediately to the proper authorities,” Bay District Superintendent Mark McQueen said.

Holmes County authorities are investigating a threat circulating their schools, as well as false reports of an active shooter at Bethlehem school.
