PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. ( WMBB ) – For fans of the Spinnaker Beach Club, photos and memories are all you have left. Demolition crews have taken down the entire structure.

When they began their work back in July, the plan was to tear down about half of the building and try and save the other half.

Demolition crews began taking down part of a Panama City Beach landmark Tuesday morning.

It was to be incorporated into the new Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge that’s being built on the Thomas drive site. But apparently, it was too badly damaged to salvage.

Spinnaker opened in 1972, growing from a small beach bar to a super club, right up until 2018 when hurricane Michael heavily damaged the building.

Owner Sparky Sparkman leased it to tootsie’s Orchid Lounge owner Steve Smith, who is relocating his business from Pier Park.
