BAY COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – Public transportation seems to be alive and well in Bay County. Bayway held its second annual Bayway Day Friday morning at the Gulf Coast State College stop.

It’s been two years since the county’s public transit system changed its name from the Bay Town trolley to Bayway.

Bayway managers celebrated the name change and rebrand, giving back to riders and employees.

“So Bayway Day is meant to be a big community celebration between everyone, so we’ve got some local partners out here. We’re out here today to bring together riders, members from all our local colleges, just everyone to celebrate freeway transit,” BowStern Marketing Communications Employee Caroline Benson said.

The stop where the event was held is the main transfer point with five busses stopping here every hour on the half hour.

“It’s nice. It’s great to be out and enjoying the views, the people, meeting different people, different cultures,” Bayway Driver Michael Page said.

Drivers were also able to get off at the stop and explore the booths as buses passed through.

“I went through each booth. It’s nice. If you didn’t get a chance to come out today, you missed a treat,” Page said.

The celebration featured local partners including food trucks, FSU Panama City, Gulf Coast State College’s radio station, WKGC, and more.

Bayway managers plan to continue the event for years to come.

Bayway is also raffling away a free one-month pass. You have until Monday to enter. To enter the raffle, click here .
