OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla (WDHN) — A diver who went missing over the weekend was found dead after a lengthy search in the Gulf of Mexico, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office says the 30-year-old white male diver was found dead in the water around 17 miles southwest of the East Pass in Destin, near where he was last seen.

“Our sincere prayers for comfort and healing go out to his extended family and friends in their tragic loss,” the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office said in a release.

The diver, whose identity has not been released, was last seen wearing a camouflage wetsuit and a neon orange dive tank.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission is handling the investigation.
