BAY COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – Tyndall Air Force Base is preparing for a storm just in case.

The base is now at HURCON 4 level. That means storm-related winds are possible within 72 hours.

The base will then upgrade to HURCON 3, 2, and 1 if necessary.

Officials have not evacuated the base, but are encouraging Tyndall personnel and their families to continue monitoring the storm and have an evacuation plan ready.

Tyndall’s emergency operations center features 24-hour assistance. Tyndall is still rebuilding after the eye of Hurricane Michael passed directly over it in 2018.

The category-5 storm damaged or destroyed almost 500 buildings on base and they are still in the middle of a rebuild.
