JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – Jackson County Emergency Management will open a shelter to the general public at Marianna High School beginning at 11:00 a.m. Thursday.

“There has been no significant shift in the track of Hurricane Helene. However, the eastern half of the county may experience hurricane force winds, with tropical storm force winds throughout the rest of the county,” Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said.

Firearms, drugs, alcohol, and pets are prohibited.

Officials said you may bring blankets, pillows, small air mattresses, sleeping bags, small folding chairs, toiletries, entertainment, and prescription medications (must supply your prescription).

JCSO also said to bring some form of I.D. if possible. The special needs shelter will still open at Marianna High School at 9:00 a.m.

“If you live in an RV or mobile home, you are encouraged to evacuate. However, if you can shelter in place or evacuate to a different location, please do so,” JCSO said.
