PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. ( WMBB ) – The M.B. Miller Pier closed at 7 a.m. Thursday morning and will remain closed until Friday at 7 am. But that didn’t stop some people from going out on the beach.

The ocean waves were high and had strong currents. Double red flags are flying on the beach, signaling that the water has a very high hazard and is closed to the public.

Majority of residents in Apalachicola evacuated before Hurricane Helene landfall

The pier is closed but people are still using the nearby beach access to take a look at the shoreline. Although some residents were out by the pier, people should exercise caution and follow warnings.

The winds in that area are strong and the rain may remain strong, those warnings are there for a reason.
