WALTON COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – A Mossy Head man is facing several charges following a standoff with authorities in Walton County on Tuesday.

Officials said 38-year-old Michael Stephen Boone was wanted by the Niceville Police Department on several charges. These charges include aggravated stalking, making false reports of a bomb, threatening serious bodily harm to a law enforcement officer, and issuing written threats to kill.

Just after 8 a.m., U.S Marshals Service Regional Task Force and Walton County Sheriff’s deputies went to Boone’s residence on Seven Oaks Road to arrest him. However, Boone had barricaded himself in a camper on the property, authorities said.

After Boone allegedly refused to come out, authorities said they attempted to enter but he started to make death threats against the officers and claimed to be armed.

Shortly after that, authorities said they started to see fire form inside the camper.

According to authorities, Boone is believed to have started the fire. As the fire grew, deputies said he exited the camper and tried to flee the scene on foot. Walton County Fire Rescue arrived shortly after and quickly put out the camper fire.

Following a 100-yard chase, authorities managed to catch and arrest Boone. After being taken to the hospital and being cleared, Boone was taken to the Walton County Jail.

Authorities said that before being placed into a patrol car, he spit in the face of a deputy and threatened to kill the deputy’s wife and children.

In addition to the charges in Niceville, he’s now facing charges of arson, death threats to law enforcement, resisting arrest without violence, and battery on a law enforcement officer.
