PANAMA CITY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – Leaders of the Florida State University Panama City campus are getting more involved in the healthcare field. The school held its second annual Health and Lifestyle Fair on Wednesday.

Students in the Public Health and Communications program helped organize the event. Attendees had the chance to win a pickleball set, a child’s car seat, a child’s bike, and gift card baskets.

It was also an opportunity to share the new Highway 79 hospital campus plans.

“We’re also really trying to highlight the new FSU health facility in cooperation with Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, which is, of course, our first hospital that’ll be on the beach itself,” FSU Panama City Professor of Professional Communication Dr. Laurie Lawrence said.

“Health care is a very personal situation and we want to be out in the community telling people about what we are, what’s open, educating, providing guidance, giving opportunities to make them aware of what is open and what’s on the horizon,” Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare Chief Health Operations Officer Andrew Starr said.

The clinics and medical office building opened this summer. Officials will break ground on the teaching hospital in January and it will open by the end of 2027.
