EASTPOINT, Fla. ( WMBB ) — Franklin County Sheriff’s officials are providing relief to their neighboring counties that suffered damages from Hurricane Helene.

Franklin County Sheriff A.J. Smith and his crew visited Taylor and Dixie counties on Saturday, Monday, and again on Wednesday.

They handed out food, cleaning supplies, diapers, baby formula, and more to residents. Smith said he met several families that lost their homes and all their belongings. He said this is a way to help those who helped us after Hurricane Michael.

“Somebody described it to me as Armageddon, and it was. It was just total destruction. I think about what Franklin County would look like if we would have had that storm. It would have been the same thing. I think about what help we would have needed. It makes me feel good to know that the people of Franklin County are stepping up like they always do in every relief effort,” Smith said.

Smith says they’re planning another relief trip this Saturday.
