PANAMA CITY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – The nonprofit Save the Closet is making a significant difference in the lives of local families. On Sunday, the organization hosted its annual clothing giveaway to provide essential items to attendees.

With Hurricane Michael hitting the region 6 years ago the nonprofit wanted to celebrate how far the community has come.

“That’s what we saw after Hurricane Michael. And there’s always needs, even after, just people are still trying to build their lives together. Like here. So we’re here to help. And I have this big thing about my life. I have this saying that I live by, and it says, the only people we need to get even with are those that have helped us, “Beachy Beach real-estate owner Karen Key Smith said.

Buckets of free clothes were set up for people to fill their empty bags with clothes, shoes, and more. Its sponsor Beachy Beach Real Estate provided food to eventgoers while they shop.

Deadline tomorrow to register to vote in November general elections

Save the Closet owner Katy Lingle Pinson says the giveaway is for anyone who wants or needs clothes.

“We’re not asking for IDs or income status. We’re not the clothes police. Everyone’s welcome to come. There is no socioeconomic barrier here. This is for the entire community. I don’t care if you live in a $1,000,000 house or you’re not sure where you live, next week is for everybody. It helps your dollar stretch further,” Pinson said.

Pinson says the nonprofits’ main goal for this event is to pay forward to community members who have helped supply them with clothes so they could supply to those who are struggling. Save the Closet is in need of men’s and junior teen clothes. If you would like to donate you can visit their resale boutique off Hutchison Blvd.
